We are proud to announce the Hoop Shoot winner of, not only local and district, but also State, Miss Maddy Metcalf from Siletz! She will competing at the NW National level in Vancouver on Saturday, March 1st. If she wins there she will be eligible to go on to the National Finals! You rock Maddy!
We are holding a special meeting on Saturday February 8 at 4pm to discuss the continuation of our Lodge. It’s important that we have as many members as possible attend. Without more volunteers, the stability of our Lodge is in jeopardy. My plans are to still be involved but I cannot put the hours in that I have over the last 3 years. With more volunteers this should not be a problem.
We had a wonderful turnout for our Annual Veterans Day Dinner on Monday, November 11th! We served 30 Veterans a free (as always) dinner as well as 41 non-Veterans. We also were able to present 20 Veterans with their Oregon Honorable Service Medal. Thank you, all Veterans, for your service to our country! Thank you Jim White, retired USMC, for your speech and promoting RSVP for Veterans. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this all happen!
Please join us for our Flag Day Ceremony this Friday, with a reception at 4:30 PM followed by the ceremony and dinner (it’s Fish Fry night!). We are honored to have the Yaquina Bay Coast Guard Color Guard present the colors. And of course, we are very pleased to have our Lady Elks present the various flags that have been used throughout the history of our United States.
I am so pleased and proud to announce that our Lodge Bulletin placed 3rd in the State for Lodges with Membership under 400! The Northwest District had a great showing in the State competition. We had 3 entries in the competition and came out with 3 winners. St. Helens took 1st in their category of 401-700 members and Tillamook took 3rd in their category of 700 or more members. Congratulations to all the Lodges who submitted and thank you to all
the editors for their good work!

Just a quick reminder that June 14th is Flag Day. We will be incorporating our Flag Day dinner with our regular Friday Night dinner, menu to be announced in the June bulletin. I hope to have some raffle items at the Lodge soon to raise money to help with prizes for the kids who participate in the Americanism Essay Contest this year and also for our Veterans Programs. Please come and observe the Lady Elks presentation of flags our country has used through history, have a delicious meal and remember what our flag represents and the citizens who have fought and died to protect it.
This was my error in the bulletin–so sorry!
The Toledo Grad Night committee has worked hard all year to raise money for the Seniors Grad Night party. Our Lodge graciously donates the use of our facility for their Indian Taco night once a month (3rd Wednesday) during school months. It is a great meal for only $5.00! Next month is the last Indian Taco night until September. Come on up, have a good meal, visit with friends and help out our Toledo High Seniors!
The Installation of Officers ceremony and celebration will start this Saturday, 3/23/13, at 4:00 PM. Our incoming officers including Exalted Ruler-elect Jim Miller (see pix) cordially invite you to attend. Following a meet and greet cocktail hour will be followed by the Installation and dinner will be served starting at 6:30 PM. There will be music following. This should be a fun time for all! Jim Franklin and his crew will be cooking dinner, including Jim’s famous bread pudding for dessert!
We are just finishing the District Lodge Bulletin Contest and I will be announcing the winners in April’s bulletin. Congratulations to all the Lodge Bulletin Editors for their excellent work!
I received a letter from a member recently and was asked to print it in the bulletin. Unfortunately the content of the letter was not appropriate for publishing here. The bulletin is for current Lodge and Lodge event information presented in a positive manner. It is not the venue to voice displeasure and discontent. I believe the letter will be read on the floor of the Lodge, and will be dealt with there. Now on to bigger and better things!
Here we are at the end of the current term and looking forward to the new term. Ken has done an exemplary job with the tireless help of his wife Ginger. They both have earned some long overdue down time. As we look forward however, we need members to step up and take on an officer’s position. We need trustees, a couple of chair officers and a couple of appointed officers. The ER cannot do this job alone. If we can’t fill the chairs then we will have to close the doors and that’s not an option any of us want to look at. So please, just commit to donating one year to your Lodge. It’s not difficult it just takes dedication and determination. I too have committed to continue to do your bulletins and flyers, cook at least once a month, coordinate and organize the Summer Festival Beer Gardens and I will be taking on the additional responsibility of an officer’s position if I’m voted in. Join me in helping keep our Lodge thriving, not only for us, but for our community. Contact either Ken, myself, Jim Miller or any other officer at the Lodge if you’re willing to help us make another year a successful one.
And finally, don’t forget your dues and please consider that additional $5 for Elks National Foundation so that our Lodge will be awarded one of the $1000 or $2000 grants available!
